Summary: Vita Center for Women was recruiting OBGYNs and had been looking for quite some time. They were looking mostly on their own and relying personal connections until their new office building was complete and it was time to get serious. They then engaged some other retained firms to source candidates. Until he conducted an audit, Dr. Pfeiffer had no idea he had spent $70K on one of the big retained firms out of Dallas, and almost fell out of his chair! He cancelled that search immediately.

Organization, Goals, and Direction

CEO, Dr. Jeff Pfeiffer started the group and owns the Vita Center group outright. Some of their biggest challenges were finding providers who wanted to live in Decatur, a small, predominantly blue-collar city. There are two Decatur hospitals, each about the same size, approximately 150 beds. One is the county hospital; the other is part of the Catholic system. In order to compete, both hospitals must be delivering babies, and in order to do that you need to entice providers to live in Decatur and be a part of Vita Center—THC was able to deliver.
